Summer in Florence: all the great events in the city

Art, music, theater, cinema, dance and fun are mantra in the Florentine panorama, at any time of the year. But above all they animate the events, even the international ones, of summer in the city. If you think that the warm season is worth enjoying only by the sea, I’m sorry but I must contradict you: Florence in this period is full of music, colors and energy.

Many events are organized in the streets of the historic center, in the museums and in our most beautiful parks, to entertain Florentines and tourists of all ages.

Fancy to know the greatest events animating Fiorenza in this long summer 2019? I'll tell you what I've already written down on my personal agenda ... I don't want to miss them at all!

Musart Festival

Many concerts are scheduled during the Musart Festival, held from 13 to 24 July, in Piazza Santissima Annunziata, a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo of Florence. On exciting nights, artists such as Steve Hackett (ex Genesis band member) and Francesco de Gregori will perform. Furthermore, by popular demand, on Saturday 13 July, after last year sold out show, there will be the return of the magnificent dancer Roberto Bolle in "Roberto Bolle and Friends".

If you want to attend the concerts of the Musart Festival, don't miss our special offers:

Florence Dance Festival

If you love musical performances, the Florence Dance Festival is your appointment with the Florentine summer. Famous dance companies and dancers will perform in twenty shows scheduled from 1 July to 3 August in the Great Cloister of Santa Maria Novella Church.

Some names? The irreverent first Ukrainian dancer Sergei Polunin, recognized world star of dance, or the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, one of the most important Israeli contemporary dance companies.

Florence from the top

Imagine the sunset over Florence ... an idyllic scene, every time it ravishes me like the first one. Would you like to enjoy a similar, extraordinary view of the city, perhaps listening to excellent music or enjoying theater performances with national and international guests?

Said than done: take part in Florence from the top (Firenze dall’Alto)! Six special evenings, between June and August, will take place on the most beautiful panoramic terraces of Florence, such as that of the Innocenti museum or Palazzo Vecchio.

A breathtaking dive in the heart of the city.

Free access to the Uffizi, Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens

Are you looking for an opportunity to visit some of the most famous art treasures in Florence again? Here you are: in summer you can enjoy free admissions to the Uffizi, Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens. The special openings coincide with the commemoration of equally special dates for our city. The Uffizi Gallery and the Gallery of Statues and Paintings will be accessible free of charge on 11 August, on the eve of the anniversary of the fire of 1762 which burned part of the Gallery and its works.

Free visits to Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens will instead take place on 4 August, to commemorate the night of the Bridges, on 4 August 1944, when the Nazi army that occupied Florence blew up several bridges over the Arno and on 27 August, when, in 1569, Cosimo I was crowned at the head of the newborn Grand Duchy in Tuscany.

Apriti Cinema

Not just an outdoor cinema, but a dream arena: this is the promise of the Apriti Cinema, organized under our starry sky. Every evening, from 25 June to 11 August, the Vasari Loggia of the Uffizi Galleries will make space to excellent films, in original language and Italian subtitles. I personally love to enjoy a good movie on summer evenings, sipping my favorite drink under the stars. An experience that, in the shadow of the majestic Uffizi, is really worth trying!

The initiative will be free (another good reason to participate!) and will include screenings with different themes, including: "The stars and the museum", dedicated to the relationship between art and cinema; "Midsummer Nights", cycle of films taken from the Arte Film Festival; "Middle East Now", films from the Middle East; "Notti doc", dedicated to musical documentaries.

Giardino dell’Artecultura

For a summer different from the others, in contact with luxuriant nature, write down the program of the Giardino dell’Artecultura in your diary. The wonderful Horticulture Garden, until 8 September, becomes the scene of a series of musical, artistic and popular activities and events including also workshops, flea markets and sports.

Relaxation and fun will not lack, thanks to the organizing associations of the events: bio space, dedicated to ecological initiatives; workshops for children; craft shows; ArtGarden, exhibition of young artists; popular music, jazz and theater. Finally, there will be activities dedicated to open air wellness: yoga, pilates and dance therapy sessions will animate the lawns of the garden. What better way to regenerate yourself in contact with nature?
