Grand Hotel Adriatico's Commitment to Sustainability
When choosing where to stay, you're making a decision that goes beyond comfort and amenities. It's also about how a hotel operates, the people who work there, and its relationship with the local community. Increasingly, travelers are looking for hotels that pay attention to these aspects, where quality hospitality goes hand in hand with practical initiatives and thoughtful resource management.
Grand Hotel Adriatico has embarked on a journey to incorporate environmental, social, and management considerations into its daily operations. This commitment is also documented through a certification process that assesses specific requirements and supports continuous improvement.
DCA ESG Certification
To make our progress measurable and verifiable, we chose to obtain DCA ESG certification, issued by Dream & Charme Srl, a certification body accredited by Accredia in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065.
The standard assesses nine areas of sustainability through an evaluation system covering more than 1,200 criteria related to environmental, social, and management practices. In previous assessment cycles, we achieved level 4 out of 9 and continue to work toward further improvements under the certification program.
Our certification has been renewed for the second consecutive year, reflecting the continuity of our efforts.
The certification documents compliance with the specific requirements assessed during the audit. It also provides a framework for reviewing our existing practices, identifying opportunities for improvement, and guiding future decisions.
Environmental Considerations in Our Daily Operations
Our approach to resource management includes practical improvements throughout the hotel. We have gradually introduced LED lighting, now installed in 100% of our common areas and approximately 80% of our guest rooms, to support more efficient energy use. Our inverter-based heating and cooling system also automatically adjusts temperatures according to the needs of each space, helping us manage energy consumption more efficiently.
Another initiative involves the minibar in your room, which we no longer stock in advance. Whenever you would like to use it, you can request a refill by sending a message to the hotel, calling the Front Desk, or scanning the QR code inside the minibar.
We introduced this system for a specific reason: previously, some products remained unused until their expiration dates and had to be discarded. By restocking minibars according to guests' actual requests, we aim to limit unused products and reduce food waste while maintaining the convenience of the service.
These initiatives reflect our approach to more mindful resource management, combining practical procedures and technology as part of the hotel's daily operations.
Our People and the Local Community
Our approach also extends to the people who work at the hotel and our relationships with the surrounding community. In managing our team, we follow the employment standards and contractual requirements applicable to Italy's hospitality sector. Another important aspect is our connection to Tuscany.
Whenever possible, we prioritize local producers for our dining services, selecting regional wines, quality olive oil, and fresh ingredients. At Ristorante Opera23, this approach is reflected in our appreciation of Tuscan products and our partnerships with local businesses.
When selecting suppliers, we also consider compliance with applicable employment and social security contribution requirements, alongside the quality of their products and services. These criteria are part of how we manage our professional relationships, with attention to service quality and the people involved.
Enjoy Your Stay, with a Little Extra Consideration
Choosing a hotel that pays attention to environmental and social matters also means being able to learn about the practices behind its daily operations. Practical changes, technological improvements, and a documented assessment process can all be part of a comfortable, enjoyable hotel experience.
